 When traveling abroad, would it make sense to have a second Apple ID and iCloud backup account that you restore your phone with that is used between borders and in areas that are sketch?   Limited apps, no bank/bitcoin apps.

 Yes. Delete basically anything that could be a issue. Have your phone turned off and in sight as you travel through customs. Once safely inside install a sanitized only needed while I'm here account. Repeat the clean once you leave. Once back home now you can fully restore.
