I switched from Apple because they tried to block zaps in Damus. Use my Android 85% of the time now.  

 my custom built nixos desktop is my freedom sanctuary. Noone can force upgrade anything, entire system is immutable. Android doesn’t come close. Hoping one day i can have a phone as free as my linux machine. 

 vanillaos.org is a nice balance of immutable but usable. 

 What makes it immutable? Is it nixos ? 

 It supports nixos for installing applications, yes, but the core system is made immutable via bootable partitions updated and rotated via atomic transactions.

 Yes, it is a novel Linux distro. You can install apps from any distro at all due to it's deep container integration with the desktop environment. Been using it as a daily driver for a year or so. Pleasure. 

 Seems like a simpler to use nixos. Will check it out. 

 Is it easy to set up? 

 Its a pretty advanced OS, i always suggest running arch first until you get tired of bricking your machine 

 Suggest LFS so they learn the internals better 😁

 I don’t run linux on macs, terrible experience. I have an x1 carbon gen5. Best laptop Ive ever owned. The new m2 apple silicon chips are much faster and more efficient, but macos is so bloaty that it actually runs slower than my hand rolled linux desktop.

 I can't really argue against that; Linux really represents the pinnacle of freedom tech.

 Been using Android since 2013. Best decision ever! 

 Android is definitely better than iOS in that regard, but nothing beats running a fully freedom respecting OS like Ubuntu Touch for example. 

 Especially if you run a Custom ROM.
