After listening to this latest podcast from @petermccormack with @Parker Lewis , he express different times that nostr is bad for Bitcoin because it distracts the developers who dedicate their time to developing nostr. Wdyt? For me, I believe that nostr and bitcoin go hand in hand, and mutual benefit is obtained from their development GM🌞 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbxyhDoEPg4
I think nostr is the biggest opportunity to work closely with Bitcoin than there has ever been. For many reasons. Some of which are: Bitcoin companies tend to be heavy on fincen regulations and unexciting exchange of currencies. They actually wish they could build a nostr, but can't because they're in a quagmire of regulations and risk. They would never pay someone with lightning to make memes. They would never implement zaps in a day. They have to stay in the app stores and suckle up to big tech. Or they are so small that they're only a few developers needed. Nostr is so exciting and full of possibilities, and I'm glad I'm here for it whether it succeeds or not. Hopefully these guys will see that and join the party instead of complaining about where to 'allocate devs'. 🤙
Yes! Definitely I believe that they are not self-exclusive things, the development of both technologies advocates freedom, and they are supported by an open source model. For me, this criticism does not make sense other than that he wasn't interested in learning, or has contrary interests for some reason.
Nothing is bad for #Bitcoin and certainly not #Nostr. Developers are where they're needed or feel appreciated.
From 1h12m. Great listen. @Parker Lewis says nostr is not censorship resistant in the same way as bitcoin. He's right, it's only really censorship resistant if you run your own relay. A wonderful lesson in how to think for yourself and present a counter viewpoint.
Yes, that's true, but I think it's obvious, the topology of the architecture has different approaches, for bitcoin redundancy is a requirement, while in nostr it's something recommended but not mandatory, in any case I think it's something also due to the current state of youth of nostr, I think as it continues to evolve solutions will come out that will fill the gap and can make nostr a more homogeneous network, I'm talking about merkle trees and the proposal of hornet, what do you think about that?
I think Parker Lewis is absolutely brilliant with his forward thinking on payment rails. His interpretation of what “true decentralization” looks like made me re-think more about how special and unique the Bitcoin network is - not sure I fully understood his point about NOSTR though
Mad respect for nostr:nprofile1qqs8dzjwlrgdzltmgmmzg50l3jpr3hxv357hj03rjut5jsfm5ugtv9gpremhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet59uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcpr4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt4w35ku7thv9kxcet59e3k7mf05zgslz but I think he is not understanding nostr. First off, nostr will onboard more bitcoiners than going missionary Jehova Witness style orange pilling simply because it scales much better. Criticism and reluctance are always welcome but his points on censorship were just not well thought out. Yeah what happens if Damus censors you? You just go to the next app and next relay and republish. It's absolutely not the same as irreversibly getting rugged hard money. Then (I paraphrase) says "you can't have a little censorship resistance, just like you can't be a little bit pregnant". Well, that's flat out wrong. Pregnancy is a binary matter. Unless you're too woke to understand it, you're either pregnant or you're not. Censorship resistance is not like that. Security and privacy matters are solved through threat models, which are a complex continuum dependent on context and objectives. You simply can't say is this censorship resistance or not; when we do it's because we can only fit so many words in a meme. Bitcoin is the *most* censorship resistant money tech we have so far (with a decent network effect) Nostr is the *most* censorship resistant communications tech we have so far (with a decent network effect) nostr:nevent1qqszrcl72vr236wa9ey9mlzfc8sxpscq9rqpjdf84eqj06hz3arlrzspy9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twvfshycm9d3hkucfw0puh5tcpzpmhxue69uhk2tnwdaejumr0dshszxthwden5te0wp6kymrfvvh8yetvv9ukjmn89e5k7tcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qg3waehxw309ahx7um5wgh8w6twv5hsz8thwden5te0dehhxarj9ekh2arfdeuhwctvd3jhgtnrdakj7qgnwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxtcppamhxue69uhku6n4d4czumt99uq3gamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7tpvfkx2tn0wfnj7hy7rjn
i think parker has his own ideas as we all should. i dont agree with him i think nostr is an awesome way to orange pill peeps. 🤙
