using mobile phone apps for bitcoin (even with hardware wallet) is insecure, but worse still, its useless for privacy. I don't understand why anyone would encourage users to use android/ios to manage their bitcoins. I would not trust such people. Its unnecessary, costly, and risky, you can't even airgap a phone without a soldering iron. Convenience and security do not mix. Add to that the recent scandal around push notifications. Just no. Stick to free open source methods. So many companies trying to profit from convenience, knowing full well they are sacrificing your privacy and security.
I think it's clear that the majority of non-bitcoiners, those that we want to onboard, are fine with the privacy trade offs, even when thoroughly explained. Convenience trumps privacy for the typical user.

But privacy isn't at odds with convenience from a user perspective - just the developer. They could certainly create software to provide data without having to know or record user data. For example, iVPN is a great service that is very convenient and private. (They don't know or store anything about me that a VPN provider doesn't need to know)

If we want solutions that are private, then we need to support the developers and companies that actually provide them.
