This airtable of proposed, rejected, and accepted new emojis is awesome. https://airtable.com/appD88rpPmpf4V5zF/shrQ5SB6FPP5UlLJu/tblFdzu4kZYAgkvPF?viewControls=on
And here’s the spreadsheet of emojis sorted by how often they get used… https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Zs13WJYdZL1pNZP0dCIXkWau_tZOjK3mmJz0KNq4I30/edit?gid=196891844#gid=196891844 The most used is 😂 beating out ❤️. The least often used is 🦳! Which I had to look up what it is supposed to me, it’s “white hair style”. Followed by ‘bald hair style’ 🦲. Followed by small island country flags… Do those hairstyle emojis make any sense to anybody, apparently not!
And yet, they were approved by the Unicode standard. Proving there’s always room for white and bald hair styles. 😂❤️
Another article on Nostr idea
Very cool. I geek out over symbols. So much so, that I signed up to the Unicode Consortium awhile back. So now I get a preview of the new emojis released each year. Coming soon to your mobile keyboard: ‘face with bags under eyes’, ‘splatter’, ‘shovel’, and ‘harp’. Seems on point for 2024. 😱
I would kind of geek out if you wrote articles on Nostr about why this or that emoji failed. There are some cute ones and they were denied.
The ‘Emoji Standard & Research Working Group’ receives the submissions, and there is a guideline they use. But noted, will look to write a little more on it. I know that there was a petition to submit Bitcoin as an emoji this year, but cannot find it in the submissions. Will look into it. 🙂
🫡 thank you for Nostr contributions
