Yep, it really can be this simple.

This is a Heltec V3, in the bit of Styrofoam it ships with, along with a 2000 mAh battery inside an Altoids tin.

Seems to work just fine. Next week, I plan to upgrade it with an external antenna.

Proving yet again the versatility of altoids tins.
Put a tiny solar panel on the top and start dropping #reticulum nodes everwhere
So question for you, I have the maker hawk 3000 mAh battery and I can’t get them to charge and in fact, I just unplugged the usb and rebooted it, and at first it had an empty battery emblem but just switched to a plug… is there a driver required for batteries?
My experience so far is that the battery percentage indicator is not all that accurate.

I've had a low battery appear to not be charging but after rebooting the board, battery actually had been charging just not showing the charge increase on the screen.

Any idea whether the Altoid's tin might serve as a Faraday cage?🤔
Not sure. Possibly. Interesting thought to experiment further.
That is the coolest use for an old Altoids can. I think I will have to do the same.
