I think these are tromboncino squash, i threw out seeds and forgot about them till they started putting on squash. First time growing them, so can i pick any time, or do they need to turn a certain color? #asknostr #permies #gardening #homesteading https://i.nostr.build/1CxWizHCwoTnJicC.jpg https://i.nostr.build/nldM99dSy1s5HsOq.jpg https://i.nostr.build/I2dtyXxohBq0Xq2l.jpg
Those are ready to go. They will get way way bigger if you let them but the meat gets mealy and hard and looses its taste when you do that.
Maria those look amazing and isn't nature awesome 👍

I grew those once and wasn’t sure so left some and they can grow huge. They didn’t taste as good when I left them to grow too big but were pretty good sliced and grilled with olive oil. I didn’t find colour made massive difference as seemed to turn darker at variable sizes. I found it a bit of a crap shoot but smaller = sweeter.
One thing I did note. On the plants where I left them to grow big (good comedy as can easily get to 20lb), they produced less fruits
Dedicate one for seeds if youre keen in saving for next year.
The more you pick the more you get .
