Techdirt article on Jack, Bluesky, mentions nostr a wee bit - written by a bluesky user. https://www.techdirt.com/2024/05/13/bluesky-is-building-the-decentralized-social-media-jack-dorsey-wants-even-if-he-doesnt-realize-it/ I think Jack commenting that bluesky has attracted a 'very very common crowd' comment gets unfairly interpreted whenever I've seen it mentioned. I think he assumed a bit of reading between the lines? Well, I'm interpreting it as meaning the very very common 2010s Tumblr / Left Twitter positions and posturings - a pastiche kitsch protest punk rock sanctioned by HR departments. The mandatory positions you have to adopt to get art grants. Very very commonplace? Eg: nostr:nevent1qqswdlxf5l24k99n4nkp4l5w5rgh6k76gvas9hey059rl6zvkgcgz6qpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5hsygyu5z7hg5r5944zqvvupc75ceuunczx48w8p6802hpfqh3yq535pvpsgqqqqqqsuwl5da @rabble @jack (Maybe I've got this wrong lol) #asknostr
I just wanted to bring the 'very very common' thing up, but it's not what the article is mostly about lol. Merely gets mentioned, but it gets interpreted as meaning 'normie' or 'regular non-dev users'. Which I don't think was the intended meaning.
Bluesky is for the most part a nostalgia app for a time in the 2010s when a 'Be Gay, Do Crime' stixk-n-poke tattoo was a fringe radical statement, rather than the desktop background of the HR department. It's not so much for twitter exodusees, but more a specific 2010s Left Twitter & Tumblr larper. Which is surprisingly large in number. But that success is probably at a peak? (Or maybe I'm wrong and there are loads more lolol). It is also a major problem for onboarding more interesting users. Obviously bitcoin tourettes is a huge nostr problem. However seeing as there are only 24 of us, it would only take an influencer with a fanbase of 25 to outnumber the bitcoin slogans crowd here. This is our strength lol These are my #bluesky hot takes. Thanks for muting me.
Bitcoin Tourette’s, not heard that before. Accurate.
Bitcoing Tourettes Chatroom I think I invented the phrase lol:) And they say I don't contribute anything here 😤
I started out thinking I wouldn't follow anyone with funny eyes or hodl in their names, then I could only find 10 people but hey, if I was in this for numbers I'd be on some crap old website like MySpace or X.

2010s Left Twitter simulator aka Bluesky Select dialogue: A: Punch a nazi B: Fight the fash C: Yikes D: Leave
Is it though? BlueSky is just some next corp larping as an open, decentralised thingy. That said, I've never made an account because of the reasons above.
One of the funniest things for me on twitter itself is watching Elon reply guy some astroturfed centre right twitter account like libsoftiktoks content with 'Yikerinos'. It's all just lowest common denominator political theatre when he should be busy running his billion dollar companies lmao
This guy is a furry and proudboys supporter who shot 5 and killed one person… not all furries are lefties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandale_Park_shooting
Yeah man, I think that you make a good point about the Bitcoin content. It's nothing to worry about, because it's self correcting, and as the network grows, it will still be a very active part of the network with lively discussions, but it will have it's own corner and won't be front and centre as much as it is now, and there is nothing wrong with that. The one thing that I can't forgive Bluesky, putting aside it's political leanings, is that they are openly in favor of censorship, and are anti privacy. I think that speaks volumes.
It’s peaked because these folx are not progressing to the next stage of life where they have kids and stop being the center of attention
Going to read all this in a moment! 🤓 https://bsky.app/profile/rabble.nz/post/3ksgqh537os2i https://bsky.app/profile/mmasnick.bsky.social/post/3ksfhvpvdyc2h
It's a great written article. I still don't exactly understand why BlueSky perse had to build a Twitter alternative as the author @mmasnick states. I think that's something I agree with @jack. They better focused on building the protocol. Now with the protocol and the service (bsky.app client) it will face the same problem as happened to the mastodon.social instance by the founder of Mastodon Eugen Rochko. It's kinda the same problem we see nowawadays with the biggest relays coupled to the most-used clients like Damus, Primal and Snort. I predict many new bigger relays will popup in the future coupled to yet to be build clients with unique killer features. My love for Nostr is still the strongest. The most open, easy to use and community built protocol. We're very very early. Both protocols are walking their own paths, so I rather not try to compare them. I don't like to 'fight' or debate too much on these topics, as we're all following the same purpose on the long term. Just let us build the change we would like to see.
