I don’t believe any politician, but if he fails to deliver on his promise it will be a huge reputation hit for him. Something no politician is happy to encounter.

In US politics there hasn't been a single politician that has accepted the consequences of any negative behavior since Nixon. 

 You might be right, I just think that this promise is better that no coverage of this topic at all.
