Not having control of your money takes on new meaning in some places: it can be the difference between life and death

In Gaza's "currency desert," people have to try and wait up to 15 days, dodging airstrikes, heatstrokes, and looters simply to withdraw their wages and remittances into cash

There are only 3 working ATMs, and living costs have quadrupled since October 7th. Most people can't access their money anymore and live on handouts

The craziest part: the paper currency that merchants most widely accept in Gaza are Israeli shekels. Meaning, the very notes issued by the state that is currently bombing Palestinians to smithereens

Fiat currency is so irredeemably broken

 insane
This is why I no longer like the meme, "have fun staying poor."

It's not fun.
It's sad.
Perhaps they should reconsider voting Hamas into power. 🤔

But… would Hamas even allow free & fair elections at this point?

#TheProblemWithGazaIsHamas
Last election in gaza has been in 2006, 75% of gaza population is under 25 years. So i think any argument based on voting hamas into power is invalid.
Right, but can’t you see that’s precisely the point I’m making with the second question?
Surely, the HRF recognizes that Gazans are not living under a free and liberal democracy, right? Where is the condemnation against the Hamas government?

This is how Hamas treats Gazans who dissent:

Don't be afraid. The government cares for you. They do everything to make your life better. They would never use humanitarian help for preparing a war and attacking your neighbor country.
Bitcoin is probably not working too well in Gaza either.
