It is designed to be addictive, and to maximize your screen time. That’s how X makes money.
The beauty of Nostr is that there is no incentive for it to be addictive in this way.
there is definitely that incentive for clients, but no one is taking advantage of that yet
People would just use FOSS clients that don’t show ads.

True, I guess some people would use feature rich and well supported ad based clients. Kind of like choosing photoshop over GIMP, or windows over Linux
