Americans don't understand how expensive their cheap crap will become with these tariffs.

Onshoring manufacturing is not impossible, but will take a minimum of 20-30 yrs with a ton of investment and will never be as productive as china.

I will gladly pay more for a better built product that’s made anywhere preferably in the USA.
I’m just tired of buying cheaply made shit from anywhere…
You don't understand how much for a lot less quality. Chinese factories are better at most things.
This is true, but the *threat of tariffs* has been a successful negotiation tactic. A nation should use all tools available for trade negotiation.
Nah, I think BRIC knows well US can't do it, the prices would cause a revolt
Americans have become a society of endless consumption who do not know quality so are unable to appreciate it. My son's roommate in college offered to fix a slat on a bench of my son's made by his great, Great Grandfather. He had cut down the myrtle wood tree, forged the nails, made the finish himself. That kid, sanded it, renailed the entire thing with cheap finish nails and used some varnish from Walmart. He was offended when I freaked out, saying, "I don't know what the big deal is.". He was right: he didn't. Clearly, my son did not either, and that isy fault. It's not a product or tariff issue; it's a flaw in work ethic and inheritance.
I don’t disagree that some Chinese factories produce great products…
Just not all do…
This won’t work. It’s noise… Days of the US dollar as a reserve currency are numbered as things stand. Throughout history, protectionism is has resulted in negative outcomes.
 #facts
I’m in manufacturing. I could go on and on, but simply…

It would take time for sure.
Value falls to the marginal cost of production. Companies will find ways to source materials for cheaper or somebody else will make the product cheaper than a child or Uyghur Muslim in China. If they don’t bring more value, somebody will do it cheaper State side. Tough decisions cause pain. That doesn’t mean it’s wrong. GATT was the wrong decision. Now we will pay for it.
Good on you for saying it.. but you forgot how good Americans are at bluffing ;)
I actually think it is worse than these people are predicting. With these endless wars, the US is burning a lot of bridges and is destroying its own economy. It might not feel as though but to me it seems the US has already lost the timing to stand on its feet. Without some crazy-ass changes, it is done. And by done, I mean it won't be beautiful
you make things that last and there won't be a need for china. the challenge is to achieve that with money that is depreciating very fast where no one is incentivized to build long lasting high quality products
I’ll trade cheap crap for low income taxes
