 I really don’t pay close attention to politics and don’t trust *any* politician, but the Trump conviction for basically nothing feels like the covid response to me — a severe overplaying of one’s hand that  will almost surely backfire. 

It’s as though they put people in charge with a child’s time preference and no regard for second and third order effects. 

Hopefully the collateral damage is less severe than with covid, but had you set out to destroy trust in institutions (medical/government) and now judicial you could not have done a more thorough job.  
 I've already seen a bunch of people ,who hate Trump and/or normally refuse to vote, say they will vote for Trump this election, not because they approve of Trump, but just to stand up to the tyrants.
