Communism is an infection that grows over time. The story starts with “social programs”, picks up speed with price controls, peaks with dissenters lined up and shot over shallow graves they were forced to dig themselves with poorly made shovels, and ends with complete collapse. Starting down the path doesn’t necessarily always lead to that outcome. If you acknowledge and treat the infection early you can slow the progression of the disease and live with it for decades.
