According to some pithy something I read sonewhere: 45 rounds could be traded strait across for a jigger of whiskey in the old west, being the namesake for a "shot" or whiskey.  

I should allow that I have not fact-checked that and it sounds like some shit aomeone would make ip on a Facebook post.

But If it is true that makes bullets in general pretty handy in turbulent times.
