I tried going without coffee today. A few hours in and just couldn't get passed the feeling of my brain being like sludge. Eyes started to feel swollen and started getting the withdrawal tension headache. Crazy how reliant your body becomes to caffeine.
Weird. Im the opposite. I like it in the morning but I forget sometimes and go without coffee in the house for days.
An element of "ritual" is part of every addiction. If you have the same morning routine every day and coffee is part of it, it is almost impossible to quit, because you are basically following a string of "triggers" that lead you to coffee. If your mornings are chaotic and different, then it is totally possible to skip all the triggers, get out and get going and not miss coffee at all. My dad is a heavy smoker. There are tons of triggers at his house that make him want to smoke. But when he visits my in Singapore, ALL these triggers are gone (and smoking is basically illegal almost everywhere anyways), so he has no issues whatsoever to go cold turkey and all of a sudden be a non-smoker for three weeks.
Oh sure it's hard to stop cold turkey. Can be done but not a great idea. But I find it to be trivially easy to phase it out over about 5 days.
You're completely off coffee?
I was for 3 weeks. Now I have small amounts here and there. But mostly I'm on tea.
Start the detox with last cup on a Friday morning, then survive the weekend and substitute with green tea in the morning. By Monday you should be able to survive on just water. And yeah... coffee is the devil. I have "quit coffee" 15 times already...
