The healthiest social media ecosystem is one you’ve probably never heard of. Front Porch Forum is a local social media platform focused on Vermont.

It’s hugely important to that community and has tremendous engagement. I think we could build something like it that ran on top of Nostr. Not all of Nostr of course, just the ability to make your own front porch fourm within the nostrverse. What do you think?

Love that idea. Would it use tools that we already have (like Ditto) or something else?
 Holy crap

“For every 1000 households in Vermont, Front Porch Forum has 800 active members. FPF is one of the most widely used social media platforms in the state.”
Looks like a great study, I'll read it tomorrow
I like the idea. It gives me “small town” vibes. I think it can definitely work and be of interest for certain communities.
I used this when I lived in Vermont. It was lovely compared to the dumpster fire of rage that both Nextdoor and local FB groups are.
Local-first social media experiences are where the future is heading, particularly when it comes to #Nostr. There will always be a place for the "town square" model, but with more and more AI content and not knowing what information is real or not (plus spam), local networks will help newcomers bootstrap their web of trust and act as a gateway to the rest of the online world.
Isn't that what communities like henhouse.social are trying to do?
Yeah I've been thinking a lot how best to do it. Pretty much just moderated groups no?
 love it
