Mastodon or Nostr does not need to appeal to a broad audience or dominate the market.  In fact, it's better that way. Small and Niche like Mastodon's size should be Nostr's goal. Over 1 million daily active users. Growing to Twitter's size would make it difficult to even host Nostr relays in your home

 

 USD normies will care as their wealth is eventually transferred to the hands of those who use hard money like Bitcoin. 

Nostr will easily outpace mastodon. It is far more versatile. Issues of scale will be solved without much of a problem.
