Don't worry about not being technical. I'm technical and I can't understand what the hell is going on. But the basics are easy to grasp. Just hang around, follow a few people and then follow people they like. 
Works just like twitter, but a little less people and less diverse. But ultimately it's a great platform to train for the future.
