I feel like it'd be terrible for that, considering how out there it is. And if they have the idea that anime is just for perverts is probably the worst, considering both that it deals with sex as a theme and what the online discourse is like. Really I think if you want people to get into anime you need to tailor your recommendations to them. For example if they like capeshit recommend them your favorite battle-shounen.

 It has giant well animated motherfucking robots, cute girls and some nonsensical story, which is perfect to discuss if you dont know any better.
