I've seen this argument a million times, but I do not observe this effect on Nostr. The people giving valuable, constructive feedback tend to be people who zap and donate. The "free" users who are worth catering to are the ones who would have paid and often pay voluntarily. It's a subset.
exactly, so, subscribers to paid relays are also almost all worth something, they usually are doing other things and some are even devs themselves making the paid service model default will take a long time because it's a cultural thing that is imprinted in page 1 of facebook, for over a decade

Speaking of paid relays, are there any good relays that I should consider paying to join? I feel like I should support them. With my long form posts, I'd like them to be around for a long time after all of the work I've put into them. What makes sense?
well, i use nostr.land and nostr.wine and relay.tools @cloud fodder , who runs relay.tools, is a cool guy, and i think you can trust him to keep your data for you, i use one, in fact i should add you to the allowed pubkeys
When I go to nostr.wine, it tells me it is 18,888 sats to join. Is that forever, a year, a month, or something else. If that is forever, it is a no brainer. If it is a year, it is almost as certain. If it is something shorter, I'll have to decide what I want to do. I'll run out of sats in my alby wallet pretty fast. I can't find details on what I'm paying for.
