The SSD in your home server is undoubtedly the most critical component. No matter what fails, it should never be your storage. Period.

That's why we work with the best of the best.

SSDs in the Umbrel Home are powered by Phison NVMe controller and SK Hynix NAND for maximum performance and endurance.

For the unaware, Phison's customers include Apple, Seagate, Crucial, etc, and SK Hynix is also the NAND supplier for Apple, Microsoft, Asus, Dell, etc.

That said, we still shouldn't rely on one SSD as the single point of failure. That's why backups are high up on our roadmap after umbrelOS 1.0. https://image.nostr.build/a45616fb32071d65eeb347365f3139accb0b43314002c42961b9e0bfe7089350.jpg
You're right that we don't want them to fail but they do and do often.

I appreciate the endeavor to use quality components but having backup high on your list is the bigger item.

Educating customers on both the how to and the important why to backup will help more when someone's memory certainly does fail.

it will happen.

Also, I'm hopeful the backup you're working on includes network backup.
No offense but backups should have been high on the list all along. Crazy that they aren't part of the system yet.
 Well played 🤣🤣🤣
You are rigth, storage devices are the only hardware that have a100% of failure risk. Sonner or later died... Backups saves your as😂
I don't know what a Phison or Hynix are, but I'll believe you. 😂

I got my Umbrel going 🫡
I like that it is one of the mini form factor NVMe drives. So cute!
 Backup always.
people run lightning nodes on these things and there is no backups? 😧

backup feature needed it sounds like
How often does a backup need to be performed? Per transaction?
If one is using #umbrel home as a #btc node, what is your estimation for the year when those 2TB will be filled up with the btc #blockchain ?
