Its a strange world where the UK's Govt. is seeking to 'streamline' the planning process for the landing point of the world's longest subsea #electricity cable to underpin a 25 year deal to import #solar generated electricity from #Morocco, at the same time that it does little to ease the planning for #onshorewind & (through a lack of flexibility) undermines new #offshorewind projects...

That said, at this stage the project may never get going if the financing doesn't materialise!

It sounds like you want an integrated Energy strategy and policy, that also sounds like a Good Thing. I can't see a UK Govt of any stripe managing that at any time.

Knee jerks and insider interests are so much easier.
@43d7c4ea Long ago when I wrote techie pieces for mags and websites I heard of a plan to build a HVDC ring main offshore round the UK, possibly avoiding north Scotland by using the great glen, Caledonian canal. Then run spurs up all major estuaries to substations and connectors to France, Holland Norway etc. Would serve all existing and likely future offshore power gen inc wave, tidal as well as wind. Now that would be a real investment in the future. But, austerity, cut the green crap...
