Someone needed to step in. Good job
Yes. The parents. Show me a piece of legislation like this that regulates technology where it’s been a net-benefit.
The parents are too lazy. İ see it every day, teens glued to screens to follow social trends. Companies profit from their attention and manipulate their behaviors to then depend on likes or follow counts. Tech overall can be good or bad. There needs to be regulation when tech is being used to harm. Just my opinion but when social networking became social media that was the turning point where this became harmful to the users
If the parents are too lazy then they will find some other harmful thing to give their children.
True, there is no excuse for these parents. But these predatory companies must be stopped
I think it’s the government that is predatory. Now they are going to require innocent people to KYC themselves and put their privacy and data at risk. Every year there are countless hacks of databases with user’s personal information leaked on the dark web. Is it fair to put everyone at risk of something like that happening in order to “try” to protect a couple bad parents? Especially when those bad parents will just find something else to ruin their child’s brains with anyway. They always disguise new acts of tyranny under the pretense that they need to protect children. It’s total bullshit.

The real way to stop predatory companies is by not using their products. Just like how we both are using nostr. We are taking responsibility of our own lives by using a protocol without an algorithm. But other people don’t think like that. I’ve talked to countless friends of mine about how harmful these algorithms are and how bad it is to give their child an iPad. They don’t care. It changes absolutely nothing. They know it’s bad for them but they don’t want to take responsibility. They see how it fucks up their brain. They see how it makes their tantrums worse but you can’t fix bad parenting. Before iPads it was video games, DVDs, and cable tv. Not much better.
You are right! I believe very similarly to you. The banning of algorithms isn't a 'real' solution. There does need to be a mindset shift in these parents. Taking their responsibilities away doesn't fix the problem. Sometimes I feel like there is no real fix, people will just get swallowed up until they cannot take it anymore. But when the government steps in sometimes people wake up and start noticing the problems. I had a few friends say "why is the government concerned, should I be?"

Yes you should be, lol
