Stopped focusing on it once I was convinced bitcoin would work just fine 

 I think it’s good for privacy - as a tool, but not as money. I wouldn’t save my long term savings in monero, but maybe use it for anonymous transactions.

On the other hand you can also use Lighting on BTC, it’s also very private and safe.

 Private by default. That is a good thing. We need a device to go from BTC to Monero to BTC for payments.
