Not really, a clay
in my garden, but I simply pour all-purpose soil into the hole. If you have a few tomatoes then of course you can buy soil for vegetables, but it is much more expensive. From time to time it is good to apply fertilizer to tomatoes, because they are voracious and remember to water. 
P.S. Last year I had tall tomatoes in large pots and they also were fine. 

 thanks for the advice! at the moment we only have orange and lemon trees, but I'd love to have some vegetables like tomatoes and peppers. Members of my family have a fig tree, a loquat tree, a mulberry tree.. I really enjoy fruit straight from the garden!
 

 Sounds fantastic! 😍 Fresh oranges and lemons 💜 Try with tomatoes they are sometimes a divas, but they taste much better than one from the shop. Peppers are even easier to grow.
