There is some content on Nostr that isn't strictly Bitcoin or Nostr related. However, the problem I see (and I could be wrong) is that such content only has a chance of gaining traction IF the attention of a larger Bitcoin or Nostr focused npub is caught. I just don't see a sustainable path here for people who want absolutely nothing to do with Bitcoin or the Nostr protocol, which frankly is going to be most people. The exposure I've gotten to other topics on here have come from my feed of Bitcoiners and Nostr developers. Primal sort of drove me that way when I first onboarded, and my feed is now driven by a few larger npubs. This probably IS natural given the context of Nostr and alignment with many Bitcoin values, but it really isn't surprising that others aren't sticking around. I've found like two people interested in cigars (and they post Bitcoin related content lol). I've encountered hundreds to thousands on other platforms over the years. Telling people to sift through a mountain of spam and rando npubs to get started isn't going to do it. The onboarding was pretty much entirely through a Bitcoin lens when I joined. This stuff is beta as it is. That isn't good or bad, it just is. Frankly, it's all too nerdy for people other than the majority already active on Nostr. Even I get bored with it, and I'm extremely interested at baseline. I don't know how to solve it. I suspect time and better UX will bring more people. But I'm not surprised as things are.
This seems like a good time to say that the 'no algorithms' marketing crew aren't necessarily demonstrating a virtue. Algorithms are wonderful, and can be designed ethically. I don't see a future for the social media use case on Nostr without applications having discovery and relationship algorithms (at least as a default with the option to disable or tailor). nostr:nevent1qqs8xhzqppt3uuuyetz8rnks7d2yp4zz5f29m9qn6z8vv3z3ywvllygpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtczyrl2rpkz53ncm0zrwuzwa5skpprw3fupuha3wptwnwen8pqdt000yqcyqqqqqqge8y34t
Yeah it’s a tough problem. Solution is a lot more content. I pointed this out a long time ago and gave some guidance on how we can achieve it. A few people are doing a great job with content like the @Fascinating npub
