 You'll recall #RishiSunak's weakening of carbon targets lead to a collapse in the 'market' for carbon emissions offsets; the price is now half that within the EU (having previously been at rough parity).

So, the fact that the EU is about to bring in a #carbontax regime at the border that requires importers to pay the difference between their local offset price & the EU price, will both add costs to exporters into the EU & also mean the EU gets the tax not the UK!

 @43d7c4ea I'm not convinced Sunak is as unaware of EU regulations & changes as certain former PMs...

...but I'd never put it past him, or any Tory to use right-wing double-speak to spin the price difference with the EU - to blame the EU for the extra costs, whilst simultaneously claiming to have "halved UK" costs because "Britain first" or whatever *shrugs*

He's acted somewhat responsibly towards the EU so far, but now there are Tory votes on the line so all bets are off.
