They cannot learn. They would have to face their true self for that… too much to handle. So control is the only option. Control of everything to preserve the false self, even if counterproductive and destructive as fuck. 

 Agree. It’s sad but true. The worst part is that there are probably good people so caught up and controlled by the machine.
