A new customizable smartwatch, Spectra, has been launched on Kickstarter. This JavaScript-based device is powered by an ESP32-S3 WiFi and Bluetooth microcontroller, which combines with a Nordic Semi nRF52832 co-processor for optimized battery life. The watch features 8MB of RAM, 32MB of external flash memory, and supports up to a 512GB microSD card. While the project aims to offer high-end quality with maker-targeted repairability, it is not fully open-source due to proprietary code. The operating system, SpectraOS, allows for coordinate-based GUI, modular drivers, and dynamic features. Backward compatibility with future smartwatches ensures a smooth experience.
