 @46cd5609 sometimes I think about how terrifying it would be to be a trans fourth year rn. At the whim of the match. No clue where you'll end up practicing and whether it will be safe for you in a few years
 @0101f162 @46cd5609 Christ - is that how it works? You don't really have any say in where you do your residency?

(Sorry, very clueless, in another field)

That's just terrifying. My (trans) kid is a US citizen, and she won't even consider a trip back to the US because she can't be sure where it will be safe between the time we decide to visit and when it actually occurs.

This is all horrific. Sending solidarity, because honestly, can't send much else.
 @c95f59dc @0101f162 Yes it was given anti-trust exemption in the 1950s to mitigate competition causing shortages in some areas.

So rather than economic grants to even the playing field, they took away our autonomy to choose. Even if well-intended, its anti-worker reform at its finest
 @46cd5609 @0101f162 "Elites" with enormous student loans and... yeah, yikes.

That's completely bonkers. I'm sorry.
 @c95f59dc @0101f162 Yup $300k average in 2019.
 @46cd5609 @0101f162 300k???

Christ. I decided not to go to law school because it was 100k+ in the 1990s, but 300k????

Way to keep medicine only able to serve the elites because docs can't even practice under other circumstances.
 @c95f59dc @0101f162 itd be okay but Harry Reid and the Teaparty removed interest free optios in 2011. So now its just a self-sustaining, self-propagating blob of debt
 @46cd5609 @c95f59dc @0101f162 1 payment till 120
