If Elon Musk really gave the slightest shit about "climate change" then:
Why didn't he make Teslas just do electric, so everyone could afford to get one?
Why make all these fancy self-driving features, fancy auto-body, ect. that raise the price and reduce adoption?
These elites do not believe their own hype, and Tesla is the biggest privacy invader out there.

IDK about other countries, but EVs were despised and even vandalised here, until Tesla made them "sexy".
Those useless gimmicks have greatly reduced consumer cultural resistance to the entire product category.
(Hybrids are still despised here, though. Always remember 50% of people are below average.)
He didn't have to create low-cost EVs. Those already exist. You're not the target audience that he is marketing to. There are Nissan Leafs and Ford Focuses, etc., for people like you.
Without "climate change", then they would have to find another endless and unstoppable boogyman to scare people into conformity.
