 yeah they take the current estimated rate (11 users per second) and animate it. 11 per second seems pretty high. maybe nostr is like that, but we wouldn't know. creating a nostr "account" is just generating a key.

 https://clearsky.app gives block numbers, but it's not functioning currently, at least for me.

i doubt this is the best metric for your goal, though. blocks are used widely for pretty innocuous things, a lot of it leftist infighting.
