So X is banned in Brazil, that is why we use Nostr.
I had a conversation with a friend of mine about this. I told him they can’t ban Nostr.
He replied: yea, I’d like to see that in
China.
Nostr can’t be banned anywhere right?
#asknostr #nostr
Not as far as i know
I don’t know much about China either, but they’re strict about the internet usage right?
Banning things won't stop people from doing things
Nostr can be banned as much as bitcoin can be banned. This is why protocol > platform.
But Bitcoin IS banned in China right? I don’t know how, but isn’t it?
Exactly. But the ban is meaningless. They ban it 3 times a year.
It’s a game of whack-a-mole. New relays pop up when one goes down. Black market type behavior. Like bitcoin mining or bootleg liquor.
yeah, chinese people could start self-hosting relays with easy to use servers like start9 with onion relays. They already have cheap hardware...
they can ban clients, @damus is banned in China, but they can’t ban the protocol
Oh okay. But “anyone” with the right knowledge can build clients right? So it’s indeed a game of whack a mole.
Isn’t this just great. I mean it is a rebellion against the machine that has been feeding itself from us. But hey, we kind of had enough. So yeah, whack-a-mole away. #nostr #bitcoin
they would have to ban every relay, inluding those .onion relays.
relays could also use wireguard and other tunnels to get around even really heavy handed attempts to control access
i'm sure that some of the bigger projects will get heat eventually in the coming cycle
