All of the first three issues, with the exception of 1 copy for me, have been distributed. If you have a bitpunk.fm tape, you are part of an offline, analog, decentralized backup system for this community's work. So thank you for maintaining the flame for all the contributors.
Thanks a lot for the tape, it was a great listening experience. Hope to get my hands on the future releases, be it from you or from some underground copy.
Appreciate you listening and sending the zap! Yeah, I'm noodling a way to send physical tapes without it turning into a web form 😀 Once I add a checkout page I feel like it's now a product. I also need to think about how to allow the artist on the tape to get paid from a physical medium. At the moment I've got a nfc/qr so they can be boosted. This might be good enough.
I think the copy culture aspect and it not being available online makes it better. If you are online, you can listen now, and for the offline crowd you can always get it on conferences or try to snatch a copy (PoW :) ). Maybe you could try some dropboxes or local "seeders" on select conferences and such. How do you actually produce the copies? I suppose you run multiple decks at normal speed?
I now have a duplicator that can do 2 copies of a 40m tape in 6 minutes. It's slightly less quality than real time copies but cassettes have a upper limit anyway. And I still enjoy listening to them so I wouldn't say they are bad sounding. It saves so much time.
