 Session if you want to be uncensored.  SimpleX if you want to be invisible.  XMPP if you're self hosting and want complete control.  Threema I dislike, it's using an external service, in which you have no control 

 Threema is running everything on their own servers - no externel services or cloudservices used! 

 I've seen you post on the finances of messengers.  Do you have any content on the VPNs as well?
