I know it's being done. I've been hosting many services myself since 2008. It's 15 years later. It's getting better every single year, but we're not at a point where the average home owner will do this.
The average home user doesn't install the Google ecosystem either They use whatever comes on the phone. The key is to sell them a phone or laptop with FOSS pre-loaded.
