They’re trying to cancel the guy that created nix/#nixos. I’ve been in the nix community for about 10 years and I’ve never heard of any of these signatories. Why are we still doing this childish cancel culture nonsense in 2024? Don’t like the leadership? Fork off.

I have the feeling some specific groups want to take over specific FOSS projects. The social engineering strategy in the XZ attack was also based in social pressure.

Anyway, only a guess, I have no data to base my argument.
Trust the intuition, you must. Mmm. :yoda:
What a bunch of crybabies. This is my new Code of Conduct template: https://github.com/sommerfelddev/sentrum/blob/master/docs/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md
 Awesome
Let's be honest, codes of conduct are bullshit. Maintainers do what they want and ban who they want and that's fine. We too can always fork off if we don't like it.
 Have you read mine?
 Yeah, it's nice lol
frankly Code of Conduct's are terrible, I don't want to be cuddled if I did a bad thing, just tell me I am an idiot and get it over with already. Just get some thick skin or get out?
most people are fragile and need this so that they can remove people from the project who say mean things
People have a right to not be harassed. They have freedom from censorship and freedom from harassment.
indeed, if they do not like the way a project is run, they are free to leave.
 Read mine
I did, frankly that is the only one I would agree to, though code quality should not necessarily be the only way to avoid being cancelled. Some people can learn to make great code and thus can become a valuable contributor, the road to that might be hard.
Not canceled, but if they bother me, are noisy and don't contribute much, I don't feel like I have to put up with it.
 sounds entirely fair.
 Ian Murdock 2.0
I'd say "f**k off" in the end but still I agree.
 Oy vey 😯
This looks to me like an attempt to overtake and compromise NixOS. It might even be sponsored by russia. It sounds like conspiracy, but that is exactly what they do (among many other hard to believe things).
Yea my sense too. It went from "anduril bad" to canceling core contributors, now targeting Eelco. Reeks of coordinated effort.
 Do not want...
LOL. Russia does everything we don't like that we don't want to admit the US government is behind or is other organization including self-organization of plain human cussedness.
does this mean it can run macos packages?

People like this are so fucking unbearable. I'd ban all of them from participation in the project tomorrow if I were in Eelco's position.
 Insufferable assholes.
Not familiar with nix but that was an "interesting" rabbit hole. People are upset that they don't have the power to ban people they don't like. Only they use a lot more words and an RFC to say so.
 Yeah its odd
Happens in all sorts of open source projects all the time.
 test
Takes them do long to say what the supposed problems are.
Every system that can be attacked will be. Lets figure out how to use Nostr and other tools to make the thing attackers hate: merit based organizationns that are well distributed.
just wish nostr was hooked to something less troublesome than lightning and thus bitcoin core.
 troublesome?
 For now, lightning works fine.
You don't need the most secure network to ever exist to send pennies of value.
did you read this whole thing
cos couldnt pay me to
It is very popular to do such crap. Remember the great Bitcoin civil war between small block and big block folks?
 A bunch of childish buffoonery.
