 @d72d5211 do any governments maintain an internal pool of coding talent that then build/maintain applications for different departments? It’s not rocket science and it would be a fun job working on needed infrastructure versus silly startups 
 @3e9b5761 Totally agree. The whole 'startup' mentality is, on a society level, an 'own-goal'. Build companies designed to be sold to offshore monopolists, taking with them only the best and brightest. Dumb-as. All gov't funded software should be #Copyleft licensed, as stipulated in #NZGOAL-SE - although it's almost never adhered to by gov't agencies, because they almost never seem to understand what they're doing. 
 @d72d5211 I know in Civil Engineering there are large employee owned companies competing for government work. Interesting there isn’t the same in software, be an interesting way to have an ethically focused supplier that can fill long term obligations
