What's the best default time for popular content feeds?

1 hour?
2 hours?
4 hours?
24 hours?
4 hr is my favorite. Not enough banger content being produced for 1 hr yet. 24 hr is good for people who are not on nostr all day like me 😂.
4 hour feels a bit influencorish already imo 👀
Cause they the ones posting banger notes. Other people gotta step up their shitposting game. 😂
Suppose there is a blurry line between popular note and popular poster, no? Same on all social media ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

But I also everyone knows this before they look at a feed like this. Or the Primal trending sidebar. (You can also make the same case for zaps).

You might even make a case that nostr is the same scenario but amplified, cos replying to large follower numbers accounts acts as some sort of discovery tool(?) 🤔 Not many otber user discovery mechanisms except maybe the asknostr hashtag?

Just the reality of it.

(Perhaps 'popular on asknostr' is a possibly good DVM? 🤔)

 Great idea
I wonder how a better popular posts feed could be made and how feasible it is 🤔

I think it should have a few factors. So eg instagram's average post Follower count/Likes is between 3-5%. (Which is how you can often tell who has paid followers). I'm not sure what it is on nostr (maybe further complicated here with all those bot follows lol).

But let's just add that as one factor amongst others. Say eg an account with 20k follows on here has a post with 20 likes. That is considered average and unremarkable. (Likes as read receipts, and potentially even some zaps). But an account with 100 followers getting 10 likes is considered popular (again just as one weighing factor of popular/trending).
Obviously there is the issue with bot likes and gaming which would need to be taken into account. Reposts number is probably also important. Zaps too.

I think extra weight could be given to likes, reposts and zaps from accounts not following the original note (again taking account for gaming the system and bots).

And there are some instances where posts have sparked a lively conversation and debate. These posts sometimes have zero likes or zaps, but dozens of replies. Maybe there could be something that detects paragraph replies with proper sentences lol, to avoid showing good mornings and hellthreads and gaming the system.

🤔🤔🤔maybe this is more a DVM for interesting notes rather than popular notes(?)

But yeah it's an interesting problem I hope someone is working on this. Bringing interesting notes to the surface. Rather than the same old faces.

What other ways can this be done? Is anyone actually working on this? #asknostr

Gonna tag primal nostr:nprofile1qqsdv8emcke7k3qqaldwv956tstu40ejg663gdsaayuuujs6pknw7jspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpr3mhxue69uhkummnw3ezucnfw33k76twv4ezuum0vd5kzmqpzfmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2uc86mqq0 as I believe they are working on improvements and curious what special recipe they may come up with. I think it's interesting lol.

You can organize your feed the way you want. That is what I like most.
I'm talking about disocvery-type feeds and DVMs.
This one might be offline a couple of times in the next days before I can deploy it properly. https://i.nostr.build/2rLz4mrfmAo56ICV.jpg
Been saying this for awhile now to anyone who would listen. It doesn't help that some clients auto load all of those folks as follows for freshers. It becomes a reinforced feedback loop.

I make it a point to go through several hashtags that I'm interested in and try to find people with small followings and comment on their content on a daily basis.
 I 100 percent agree.
Lol. Yeah I've also been saying this feedback loop too.

You kind of hope that everyone knows how social media works and client recommendations are oftent to be ignored, like on 'legacy social media'.
4 hr been my default trending feed for a while and I’m always finding new people to follow from it. Just followed @quentin who popped up in my 4 hr feed 🫡
I also find pubkeys interesting in the 4h feed, in the 24h one it’s always the same people I’ve been following for a while 😅😂

Glad we’ve connected 😀
 42 😉

Gosh, that's tough... 1-2 hour is more likely to catch lesser known profiles who post a banger. But what's popular after 4 or 24 probably matches the traditional "popular content" expectation.
I changed the currently popular notes DVM from 1 hour to 4 hours for now. If it sucks, I'm happy to move back to 1 or 2 hours 😅
But I already feel with 4 hours, certain accounts make it to the top of the list all the time 😅
Yeah... I think it might end up overlapping with Trending on Band and Primal 4hr an awful lot.
It's not overlapping as much as I expected. Also... Popular from Npubs you Don't Follow is cool! I just paid 10 sats to see the feed (cool). I was expecting all the large accounts I don't follow to be there, but it wasn't that at all!
2-4 says my intuition... I despise the current 24 hr+ on some clients... It's sluggish and boring and curates the same 10-15 well known inflooncers and their perpetual simping of each other.
My bat 🦇 poo 💩 crazy 🤪 comes out whenever I decide to release it …

Same as … 🫡😉
