Providing a forum for "free speech" is the same timid response that taxpayer-supported organizations like the Vancouver Public Library give when providing a forum for Meghan Murphy (who profits from that speech).

Ditto notorious transphobe / far-right troll / pseudo-intellectual Jordan Peterson, who's been provided venues to speak at universities.

The "E" in TERF is "exclusionary:" Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. Peterson likewise employs populist rhetoric to divide.

Regarding "free speech," LGBT supportive persons/groups can of course leverage the same media / venues. However, LGBT groups almost universally (as far as I know) are by nature inclusive, even of non-LGBT allies.

Therein lies the fundamental difference, in my opinion. Providing forums to TERFs like Meghan Murphy and pseudo-intellectual populist trolls like Jordan Peterson enrich and empower them to the detriment of a significant, vulnerable  proportion of our population.

This post meandered a bit from my original objection viz-a-viz the CBC, but it hopefully provides additional context (at least from my point-of-view).

There are historic and topical concerns in the use of language; choice of words matters.

Postscript. Another issue that I have with the term "grooming" is an implicit understanding that the victim (gen. a juvenile) is compliant i.e. a willing participant. They are victims - mentally, psychologically, emotionally, financially - who are preyed upon by those with power and influence. There is a majority/minority inequality that the pedophile / sexual predator / child abuser uses to their advantage, with no concern for their victim. Psychological control of the victim. 

 @c17393bb it also implies that sexuality is a choice. Conservatives just can't get beyond the 1970s
