 I think the government wants to appear like they are helping but ultimately want to maintain control over our young people's mental states and decision making.

 I think the concern is more surveillance. Company I work for is a target for nation state actors and they are also banning tiktok

 It’s being banned because it takes market share from US tech companies doing the same things, pushing propaganda, inciting rage, and turning people into compliant citizens.

That's kinda why I don't believe it's for whatever reason they say. You do that and it would naturally die off.

 TRYING TO STEELMAN THE DAMUS BAN: IF US INTELLIGENCE COULD PROVE IT WAS BEING USED AS A PROPAGANDA TOOL AND A WAY TO INCREASE MENTAL INSTABILITY, IS IT THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT ITS PEOPLE BEYOND PHYSICAL BORDERS? SEEMS MORE OF THEIR ENERGY COULD BE PUT TOWARDS THE PHYSICAL HEALTH OF ITS CITIZENS IF THAT WERE THE CASE. 

 US intelligence agencies already said that the threats they identified with regard to TikTok were hypothetical. Of course, even hypothetical threats are good enough for politicians who already want to ban something. Either way, I have zero faith in the ability of our current elected officials to accurately identify propaganda, especially given that a concerning number of them seem to think the ongoing Donghua Jinlong joke is evidence of Chinese brainwashing.
