Why would someone lie about their country of origin?
Met a really weird “landlord” today.
Toronto keeps disappointing me. 💔
Appartement hunting is crazy. We had a prospective landlord tell us we would sign a two year lease because he likes to go to Florida in the winter and doesn’t want to come back to find another renter. Also, we could take the apartment as is OR he could install a decorative stone wall and then we could pay a higher rent. 🙄 Um… no thanks.
Lots of different reasons. For example ashamed of being from a poor country. Or hiding a foreign wife in order to have affairs.
Coming from a poor country is not something to be ashamed of. It’s just how things are.
Could be to avoid any bias and discrimination
I think it’s weird. Makes the person look like they’re not trustworthy.
🤷‍♂️ I never tell people my nationality. Does that make me weird?
No. Why? Human rights and such.
No. I don’t think you’re weird. But my situation is different. I was trying to rent a place, the guy asks me a thousand questions about my life. I ask him where he’s originally from and he can’t tell me the truth? I think it’s weird. In Toronto there are many scammers, this and other details made me doubt him.
I've known a lot of Mainland Chinese to lie and claim to be Singaporean.

No idea why, especially since the accent is a dead giveaway even to a dumb white monkey like me :-p
