16th century engraved breastplate belonging to holy roman emperor ferdinand I of austria.

the fine engravings would've been used to show off the engravers skill as well as the owners wealth. https://image.nostr.build/5aef362fc94c5687f6a594faf9ce599f4c7a5618ff7c63ddde329e64cb06703f.jpg https://image.nostr.build/3cad36d8498b04f283d45923c94e006922190d9d53548dd05011e742f269ab5d.jpg https://image.nostr.build/30716114478ee9ce756689fb2535f83f2fce6df4318527fc25f072f14bc92876.jpg https://image.nostr.build/befd2d54635ad15a39cbf27d781be05dcff01793754d09749eda970a5db9860e.jpg https://image.nostr.build/6d91419fe05e9bc8a6598addf55130c49c6451492a4ba7db604f58b7d2357557.jpg

Refugium Peccatorum — a fruitful mother of thousands: "she is above all things universal fecundity and the outer sense of the Word, the repository of all things nurturing and sustaining, and of feeding others."
I bet the engraver stole it and got all thecredit
1st thought - The amount of work and skills this masterpiece required is mind blowing. Purely manual work. And they didn’t have any laser engravers or any type of automation back then. It’s joyous just to look at it and know that we ppl can create such things. But to wear it - it prob weights not less than 20kg, maybe more. To be able to wear and fight in these things one had to be in a very good shape. 2d thought - Ferdinand was a very slim man 😻😀 ppl back then were much smaller in terms of body size than we are currently , I’ve read about it but only realized few years ago at 18-19cc fashion exhibition. Thanks for this note and for all others too - they always visually stimulate me in a right way and make me happy.
Intaglio dry point. Today also used for bank notes.
