i try for a 6th grade reading level for 80-90% of my presented work, even when it's for senior executives.

there are always industry terms you can't avoid, but even then i'll sometimes translate them to simple alternative terms for explanatory purposes and to demonstrate basic understanding 

 sounds like you have some experience in this area 

 i just think if you can say it simply then it demonstrates that you understand it well, while also saving your audience the mental burden of having to decipher and interpret tricky language
