How would quantum computers help/hinder Bitcoin adoption? https://image.nostr.build/dd5167583494348a74d48393940852a64a2c7695a2f483d421d1fea32910f3c0.jpg
Okay AI breakthroughs are really computing breakthroughs. So a quantum compute breakthrough would undoubtedly lead to an AI golden age.

If AI could replace substantial human labor (coding, writing, management, bookkeeping, etc) it would need to transact in hard digital currency that is finite and immutable. So usage and value accruing to bitcoin would increase by multiple orders of magnitude. And at the same time much of humanity would be way more productive and prosperous with AI at their disposal.

Just need a quantum resistant algorithm securing bitcoin.
Thanks for that thorough answer! We defs would need quantum resistance algorithms eh? I wonder how they would be implemented tho? Cuz the entire Bitcoin Protocol is based off of cryptography thats not currently quantum resistant… i wonder if the Bitcoin Protocol itself would evolve… (and the github repository would look entirely different) or if people would just build security measures outside the Protocol…
I’m not technical so that I don’t have a good grasp on that. Apparently from what I’ve heard changing the sha256 to something quantum resistant would be somewhat trivial in the code base. And if there was an existential threat to bitcoin I’m sure the nodes would update.
 Neither 🤷‍♂️
As it stands now, quantum computers would instantly and completely break Bitcoin cryptography. All coins in all wallets could be spent (moved) by anyone with a quantum computer. Bitcoin's value would become worthless. Miners would therefore stop mining.
