Happy one-year anniversary to this nightmare GitHub issues thread.
My favorite part was when the lead dev changed the name of the issue, so people would stop dogpiling into it.
Here’s the short version:
:nextcloud: #NextCloud #IOS changed the way they handle auto-uploads to the NC server.
It USED to be triggered by a GPS event that would fire whenever a picture is taken on an iPhone.
This required that the app have GPS permissions. Many non-technical users found this confusing and were concerned about privacy.
Apple is also not really providing a great background event for NC devs to work with, it appears. :omya_apple:
SO. Instead of putting in a little explanation banner like so many apps do, NC-IOS decided to just remove the feature and instead require that you open the app and leave it running in the foreground whenever you want all your pictures to be added to the server.
In the “background” the auto-upload process is left to the discretion of IOS without the GPS trigger. IOS will not handle background events like this until conditions are “optimal” like the device being plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi. And even then, will still sometimes block the background upload event.
:doge: Many people unhappy. Want old way. Used to only upload 5-6 photos at a time. Now upload 50-60 photos at a time. Many photo missing. Much suffering.

IMHO, Problem seems to be ios, not NextCloud.
