@f1cf1cd7 Why does it have to be "Mastodon & Fediverse"? Why not just "[the] Fediverse"? Mastodon is apart of the Fediverse, and therein it's not exclusively different nor special (outside of being nerfed and feature-poor and stack bloated). Really don't mean to be the like "Uhm, excuse me, allow me to interject for a moment..." trope; But, really, I don't understand this pervasive need for Mastodon to habitually brand itself as something different, and Mastodon's chronic detestation towards assimilating into the wider community or network.
@b17a3b4f I guess Mastoson is kind of a gateway to the greater fediverse. It's probably the most accessible and well known fediverse platform that newcomers are likely to encounter. Mastodon is like fediverse for beginners. :)
@f1cf1cd7 It doesn't have to be, though. Mastodon intentionally "other-izes" itself, or, rather, "other-izes" the rest of the Fediverse, in a marketing bid to gain, essentially, a majority share-holding over the entire network. Mastodon is by no means the easiest/simplest to deploy, nor necessarily the easiest or most straightforward to use. Pretty much the only place that Mastodon really has an upper-hand on any alternatives is application support, and that's primarily because Mastodon has fought tooth and nail to brand itself as synonymous with "the Fediverse".
