Another well-told story about Vlad III was when he refused to pay the customary tribute to Turkish diplomatic envoys who had arrived to collect it. 
When they would not take off their turbans before him as a mark of respect, Vlad had them nailed to the diplomats’ heads!

Not saying he didn't have other, good reasons to be angry, but killing diplomats was a war crime even by the questionable standards of medieval Europe... 

 Maybe that “history” was propaganda spread by his enemies 😳 

 Dude decorated his castle with heads on spikes. I think he's quite capable of doing his own propaganda XD . 

 They all do that ; look at Assange
