I briefly opened Twitter (uh, X) to check out some updates from a few contacts who are still there.
Most of what I've seen is users complaining about what X has turned into. Occasionally, someone responds with, "Sorry, you haven't got many followers and following, why not switch to a different platform?"
And the typical response is, "Well, you know, I've been here for years, I wouldn't know where to go, I'd have to start all over again... so I'll just stay here."
Boiling frog effect?

@5f9bb1a8 It's odd since user count really only means something on Twittler not here. It's harder to be heard on twittler when first starting hence the preoccupation with follower counts. That is not true here at all.
@5f9bb1a8 for me the #fediverse is much more vital compared to others.
@5f9bb1a8 I'm glad that I left when I did, maybe two years ago, I don't recall having an interest in stats, I simply (stupidly) allowed myself to be sucked into time-wasting negativity.

It was a pastime. The end.

The end for me, but it'll probably be endless for some people, probably including (real-life) friends, and realistically, a fediverse will not appeal to them.

Good thing I left that behind.
